Finally a super rich person gets it! Thank you Mackenzie Scott.

Mackenzie Scott has distanced herself from ex-husband Jeff Bezos and has given Billions to charity.

Living a simple life is not easy when you are the ex-wife of Amazon co-founder Jeff Bezos. Mackenzie Scott received the largest divorce settlement in celebrity history walking away with 25% of the couple’s Amazon stock, which is a 4% stake in the company, which is a payout of $38 billion, the most expensive divorce settlement, ever. From the start she had planned to give a lot of it away to various charities. She has more than kept her promise!

We see this all the time; Millionaires and Billionaires attending glamorous charity events and dripping with jewelry and clothing that cost as much as the average home. Most of these celebrities are paid for their appearances which makes it even more egregious. This was the best kept secret until about ten years ago when the Daily Mail exposed these opportunists and spotlight lovers in 2010.

GIVING BY THE NUMBERS

After divorcing Jeff Bezos and moving on with her life, Ms. Scott was true to her word when vowing to give generously to charities. She has donated more than $3.8 billion to 465 non-profit organizations totally more than $12 billion since she pledged to give away the majority of her wealth in 2019.

The recipients range from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, which received a $281 million gift last week (March 2022), to Habitat for Humanity, which announced a $436 million donation on Tuesday — Scott’s largest publicly disclosed donation.

Equality Now, a women’s rights organization, also announced on Wednesday it had received $15 million from Scott and her current husband, Dan Jewett.

SOUNDS FAMILIAR

Ted Turner

We know that there are more billionaires today then ever before. In 1996 Billionaire Ted Turner and former owner of CNN figured out that most rich people did not give enough to charity. So he started making phone calls asking for his rich counterparts to give more. Sounds like a great plan again. I am not sure that Ms. Scott will be the type of person to ask others to do what she has so generously gave but maybe it is time to form a coalition of Billionaires. This could be a wealthy group formed in the United States who conduct yearly summits on how to start correcting, if not solving issues like hunger, homelessness and universal health care. Health Care for those who cannot afford it but are attempting to work and make ends meet. Not Obama Care and not socialized medicine but Lifetime Health Grants funded by the coalition. These grants could be for a lifetime for those with permanent disabilities and short term for those who are working toward making a better economic jump for themselves but are hampered by lack of basic skills or education. Not welfare and not forever unless you are permanently disabled not for those who have benefits from their former employer or a sizeable law suit.

Our hospitals and schools need some major help and a wealthy coalition group could begin this rehab process one state at a time. There could be an international faction of The Wealthy Coalition which could address and pool together billionaires from all parts of the world. We have to begin somewhere and as overwhelming as this may seem we need to try. Thank you to Mackenzie Scott we have great jumping off point!
